Breaking Glass Jars
/Breaking Glass Jars
“Charlotte, aghh! I had a glass honey jar in a pot of hot water and the glass broke! What’s the secret to keeping the glass intact?” -- Roger
Hi Roger,
What a mess, huh. Sorry that happened. I’ve noticed some glass jars are not as thick as they used to be so this can affect how you can re-liquify chrystalized honey in hot water.
I use my metal steamer turned upside down to give the jars protection from the hot pot bottom. Close up the steamer wings and turn it upside down in the pot. The bottom has a nice flat platform where you can place a honey jar for re-liquifying.
Frankly I do this now regardless of the age of the glass jar hoping I don’t have the mess of broken glass and spilled honey all over my kitchen.
Good luck with the clean-up!
Charlotte
